As Mississippi’s healthcare workforce needs continue to grow, Hinds Community College is investing in the next generation of nurses and allied health professionals through a transformative new Health Sciences Complex on its Rankin Campus.
To ensure students have access to the same technologies and tools they will encounter in the workplace, AccelerateMS provided funding to support the purchase of modern instructional equipment for the new facility. The investment is helping Hinds replace outdated classroom and laboratory resources with state-of-the-art equipment designed to strengthen hands-on learning, support certification and licensure attainment, and prepare students for successful careers in healthcare.
The need was clear. As Hinds planned and constructed its new Health Sciences Complex, college leaders recognized that a modern facility alone would not be enough. Students needed access to advanced training equipment that reflects the realities of today’s healthcare environments. Equipping classrooms and labs with current technology would ensure graduates are prepared to meet industry expectations and contribute to Mississippi’s healthcare workforce from day one.
The project also supports a broader goal: expanding educational capacity. The new complex provides the space necessary to accommodate future enrollment growth across nursing and allied health programs, helping address workforce demands throughout the state.
While students and faculty will begin moving into the facility in late summer 2026, the three-year funding timeline allows Hinds to fully equip the building during the first year and track student outcomes over time. As a result, measurable impacts such as enrollment growth, student success, and workforce placement are expected to emerge during the second and third years of the project.
Even before the doors open, excitement is building across campus and throughout the community.
Faculty members are eager to teach in a modern learning environment designed specifically for healthcare education, while students are looking forward to training with equipment that mirrors what they will use in hospitals, clinics, and healthcare facilities after graduation. Community support has also been strong, reflecting the importance of healthcare workforce development across the region.
The Health Sciences Complex represents more than a new building—it marks the beginning of a new era for the Rankin Campus. Hinds Community College is already expanding its vision through an additional development known as The Commons, a student-centered project that will include a residence hall, food court plaza, health center, and gymnasium.
Together, these investments are creating new opportunities for students while strengthening the pipeline of skilled healthcare professionals Mississippi needs to thrive.
